I Am Surrounded By Crazy People

Politics has been foremost on my mind, lately, although it usually is. The 2008 election season has been so very strange and historical, and yet I am still confused about…well, everything. As an avowed fiscal conservative, I had a hard time deciding between this years lesser evil. As I have said before, McCain made my choice for me with his Veep pick, and yet people are still flocking to her. People who would have never voted for McCain are fanatical about Palin. I don’t get the appeal. Please, someone fill me in on this. The woman has absolutely no redeeming qualities. I wouldn’t want her babysitting for me, let alone doing anything on a national level. Let’s go over the laundry list, shall we?

1) She’s Corrupt – lying about her involvement in several pork-barrel scandals, most notably the “bridge-to-nowhere” with Ted Stevens and the firing of her brother-in-law, she’s shadier than Jack Abramoff. She stole $232 Million dollars, and appropriated over $400 million for pork-barrel projects. On top of that, she uses public funds to cart her stupidly named children around on vacation. This woman is corrupt as hell.

2) No Experience – don’t give me this shit about having more executive experience. That is a crock. By that logic, anyone who had ever managed a McDonald’s is more qualified to run our country than John McCain. The woman doesn’t even know what the Vice President does. I learned this in grade school. If I were running a hot dog stand, I would look for an employee who at least what a hot dog was before I gave them the job.

3) No Politics – aside from telling me what I can’t do to myself and that I’m going to Hell, I have no idea what this woman wants to do to our country. Quick, what’s her stance on the capital gains tax? Bet she doesn’t even know what that is. Matt Damon was right when he said this was like a bad Disney movie.

4) Crazy as Bat-Shit – seriously. Nut-fucking-job. I have no problems with a person’s faith, but keep it the fuck out of politics. If you believe God wants you to do anything, you don’t belong in office. Intelligent Design is not science. Abstinence-Only sex-ed doesn’t work. Evolution is no longer a theory. These things are facts that Sarah Palin chooses to ignore. On a personal level, that is fine. However, policy can not ignore fact. Faith is not a basis of government in the United States. My children’s education and foreign policy should be based on empirical evidence, not a hunch about speculative religion. And Susan Sarandon said it best: “Jesus Christ was a community organizer; Pontius Pilot was a governor.”

Please, for the love God, someone explain the appeal to me. I’m not a stupid person, but I just don’t get it. I hate being left in the dark, so if there is some secret code or handshake or something, then I need to know. I feel like I am the only sane person, anymore. It’s like waking up and finding out that Tinky-Winky was the second coming, or that Jello is made from the hearts of orphans. I can’t stop thinking it’s a giant practical joke. Who in their Right mind would go along with this? Please, tell me! I AM SURROUNDD BY CRAZY PEOPLE!!!
